To the south of the red plain Havana Matanzas, the Zapata Swamp opens, a Biosphere Reserve with more than half a million swamp hectares, channels, rivers, forests, lagoons, casimbas which shelter nearly 205 species of land vertebrates. The  Hatiguanico River, the Laguna del Tesoro (Treasure Lagoon) The Salinas, Santo Tomás, Playa Larga and the historical Playa Giron are places for bird watching, interpretative paths, scuba diving and snorkelling.
